Terms of Use
Tailgator is an experimental, spare-time project that embeds the Tailscale IPN stack inside Cloudflare Durable Objects to provide a managed HTTPS reverse proxy. The current focus is webhook delivery, and we expect to expand into broader reverse-proxy scenarios over time. These Terms govern your access to and use of Tailgator. By using the service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms.
Eligibility
- The service is intended for technically proficient individuals or professionals operating a Tailscale tailnet.
- You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to use Tailgator.
- You are responsible for ensuring that your use of Tailgator complies with applicable laws, your Tailscale agreements, and any policies that govern systems you expose through the proxy.
Account and Authentication
- Tailgator relies on Tailscale authentication, adoption secrets, and tunnel identifiers. Keep your Tailscale credentials, auth keys, and verification codes secure and limit access to trusted operators.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your tunnels, including configuration changes and webhook deliveries performed by Tailgator on your behalf.
- Tailscale ACLs remain your responsibility. Configure least-privilege access within your tailnet.
Acceptable Use
- Do not use Tailgator to transmit unlawful content, spam, malware, or to attack networks, services, or individuals.
- Do not attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of Tailgator or its infrastructure except where we explicitly invite security research.
- Do not interfere with, disrupt, or compromise the integrity or performance of the service or other users’ tunnels.
- Respect third-party rights and obtain any necessary permissions before proxying traffic to or from systems you do not own.
Service Changes and Availability
- Tailgator is provided “as is” without any service-level commitments. Outages, rate limits, or feature changes may occur without notice.
- We may update, suspend, or discontinue all or part of the service at any time, including when preparing for future commercial offerings.
- We may remove tunnels or block traffic that threatens the stability or security of Tailgator, Cloudflare, or Tailscale infrastructure.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard personal data. By using Tailgator you acknowledge the Privacy Policy and agree that we may process data as described there.
Beta Features and Feedback
Certain features may be labeled beta, preview, or experimental. They may be incomplete or change rapidly. If you provide feedback, bug reports, or suggestions, you grant us a royalty-free, worldwide license to use that input to improve Tailgator without obligation to you.
Intellectual Property
We retain ownership of Tailgator’s software, documentation, and branding. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer the service except as permitted by open-source licenses that accompany specific components. You own the content and data you route through Tailgator.
Disclaimers
- Tailgator is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uptime, or error-free operation.
- We do not control or guarantee the behavior of Tailscale, Cloudflare, or other third-party services. Any dependencies they introduce are outside our control.
- You assume all risk for exposing internal services through Tailgator and must verify that your own security controls, auditing, and compliance obligations are satisfied.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tailgator and its operator shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill; or service interruption or corruption of data. Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to one hundred (100) euros. Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on implied warranties or liability, so these limitations may not fully apply to you.
Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Tailgator’s operator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
Termination
You may stop using Tailgator at any time by removing your tunnels, deleting stored credentials, or ceasing to authenticate. We may terminate or suspend access immediately if you violate these Terms or if continued operation threatens the service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including limitations of liability, disclaimers, and governing law) will continue to apply.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the European Union to the extent they apply to cross-border digital services. Where EU law requires national supplementation, the laws of the EU member state in which the operator resides apply. Any disputes will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in that member state. Consumers in the EU may also rely on mandatory protections provided by the law of their habitual residence.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time, particularly as Tailgator evolves toward a general-purpose reverse proxy or introduces paid features. If we make material changes, we will post the revised terms with an updated effective date. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
